Good Vibe #1: Anonymous donor gives away $82,000 in gift vouchers
Every resident of the small Iowa town of Earlham received a particularly heartwarming act of kindness in the mail late last month – an anonymous donor gave away more than $82,000 in food-related gift cards to every single household in town. The unknown benefactor purchased $50 vouchers from three local businesses in the town to help boost the local economy – the West Side Bar and Grille, local grocer Hometown Market, and newly opened restaurant Trostel’s Broken Branch. The combined $150 in vouchers were distributed via Earlham City Hall to all 549 households in the town, meaning each business received more than $27,000 to help keep them afloat during the COVID-19 crisis. Good Vibe #2: Visit Auckland warms hearts and reminds us that Mother Nature is breathing
It’s no secret that New Zealand is really nailing the coronavirus crisis (we love you, Jacinda!), making our island neighbour number one on our list of places we can’t wait to visit (or move to) when travel bans are lifted. As if we needed more temptation, Visit Auckland has just released a new video that is sure to warm your heart and remind you of the good that can come out of a global shutdown. The stunningly shot video has a simple message, “Sit at a distance, stand as one. When the time is right, we welcome you. But for now, listen. Papatūānuku (our Earth Mother) is breathing”. We don’t need to say anything else about it – watch it for yourself here.

Good Vibe #3: Sharon Strzelecki’s healthcare worker dance session
When netball is no longer an option, Sharon Strzelecki turns to dancing. Comedy legend Magda Szubanski took to Instagram yesterday, Monday April 13, in her full Kath & Kim Sharon get-up for a dance session with our healthcare workers for some much-needed comic relief. The video sees Sharon singing and dancing to ‘COVID Bug’ – a coronavirus parody of Soft Cell’s ‘Tainted Love’ – as a special shoutout to those on the frontline. With killer lyrics such as “don’t touch me please, I’m so scared of the way you sneeze,” it’s sure to be a certified hit. Alongside Sharon, the video includes separately filmed footage of healthcare workers from Footscray Hospital, Prahran East Medical Centre, Ambulance Victoria and Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital joining in as ‘back up dancers’. Magda has encouraged health workers in need of a dance off to submit footage of them grooving to the song and she will update and add to the video. Watch it on her Instagram account.

Good Vibe #4: Teacher holds virtual school disco for students
Did you ever have to miss out on the school disco as a child? It. Was. The. Worst. So hearing it’s been cancelled would be pretty devastating. Not wanting his students to miss out on the highlight of their social calendar, New South Wales school teacher Mark Young decided to hold a virtual school disco for those staying at home due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Woy Woy Public School teacher danced to 27 songs in 15 minutes in a variety of costumes, including the likes of ‘Gangnam Style’, ‘Cotton Eye Joe’ and ‘Macarena’. There are some seriously stellar dance moves – join in on the fun here, via news.com.au.

Good Vibe #5: Hannah Gadsby has a new comedy special coming to Netflix
In 2018, Australian comedian Hannah Gadsby’s swansong to the world of stand-up, Nanette, was aired on Netflix, summing up her entire career before she moved on. What she didn’t expect, when she was ‘farewelling’ stand-up comedy, was for the special to become an overnight success and one of the most acclaimed and watched sets in Netflix history. It was pretty apparent that Hannah couldn’t really say farewell after that. Yesterday, Monday April 13, Hannah took to Instagram to announce that her new special Douglas will be dropping on Netflix on May 26, so take note of that date for an evening of self-iso laughter. How fun is it to put something in your empty calendar?
