From Britten P/L debuts new collection

You may have spotted the arresting cuts of From Britten P/L’s button-ups in Brisbane’s very own Fallow in the past. Now the young Melbourne label has gone on to a solo show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia, turning heads with a collection of boxy, oversized silhouettes, melding sportswear and tailoring.

The creation of brothers Tim and Alexander Britten-Finschi, From Britten P/L takes inspiration from utility and the history of menswear, with the spring/summer 2013/2014 collection taking cues from the new confidence of a young boy as he shifts from school to university attitudes.

Amongst the collection are basic separates of pullovers, bomber jackets and a plethora of shorts, which appear simple at the viewer’s first recognition of shape, yet become more complex as the perfect finishes and complex fabric pairings are uncovered. Merging various textured fabrics and colours across the one item, the muted palette of greys, silvers, whites and navy is injected with touches of brighter blue and deep purple.

Basketball-esque knee-length shorts and ‘breathable’ mesh panelling are added to structured singlet and shirt shapes, while elastic waists on shorts and jackets secure the off-beat fusion of sportswear and modern street fashion. The brothers were also honoured with the National Designer Award from L’Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival in March, so expect to see more from this emerging name in the near future.
