Stockholm-based artist Simon Morris has been fascinated with magnetic levitation since the age of 16 and in the 15 years since has been experimenting with levitation technology in his design work. Simon’s latest creation is FLYTE, a lamp that combines magnetic levitation and wireless power transfer in an aesthetically appealing package. The minimalist design features a singular bulb floating an inch above a crafted wooden base.

Made from sustainably sourced materials, FLYTE is an energy efficient device consisting of a shatterproof bulb, low voltage power adapter and a choice of wooden base made from oak, ash or walnut. The base is fitted with an electro magnet that causes the bulb to float and creates a wireless energy current that powers the illumination. The base can also double as a wireless charger for your smart phone and is turned on and off simply, thanks to a touch sensor. FLYTE has garnered lots of worldwide support, smashing its Kickstarter goal by $120,000, but you can still support and purchase FLYTE through the crowd-funding page.
