Emma Mulholland previews galaxy-inspired autumn/winter

Sydney-based designer Emma Mulholland has released her latest autumn/winter collection dubbed Spaced Out, which kind of looks like she stuck a fork into a powerpoint and went on an electrified trip for inspiration – in a completely good way.

The intergalactic-inspired new collection uses Star Trek, aliens and Ancient Egypt as her muses, adjusting her 1990s sporty streetwear to host a disco-raver vibe. Morphing alien heads and Egyptian Pharaohs with heavy embellishments that would make Cleopatra proud, the collection is an eccentric, hi-fi mix of holograms, sequins, metallic and neon.

Cold-weather staples like oversized jumpers and bomber jackets come sporting large alien head motifs and entirely sequined arms, while dresses and skirts maintain a feminine edge. Tie-dyed t-shirts reveal influences from Emma’s time spent in Bali, but with excess and eccentricity overwhelming any Bali calm. Select pieces from the Spaced Out collection are now available for presale at Violent Green.
