Local designer Emily McGuire releases skirt collection
Local emerging designer Emily McGuire has released a diffusion skirt line for spring/summer, while she gathers ideas and sharpens designs for an autumn/winter collection for next year.
Entitled SKIRT, the mini collection features three prints across the same skirt style in small production runs, ensuring no awkward days of matching outfits at work or amongst friends. Handmade from quilted cotton in Emily’s Bayside studio, the skirts feature whimsical, spring-inspired prints of cats in teacups, painted dots and a Miffy-style floral.
This fashion newcomer graduated from QUT with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion last year, commencing her namesake womenswear label earlier this year. Weaving interests in fashion theory, visual art and garment design into her signature style, Emily reinterprets and deconstructs garments until they represent something that is individual and strong in silhouette. Her graduate collection Dream Scream embraced bright colours and various textured fabrics, inspired by the space between dreaming and the waking state and the bewilderment and unsteadiness one can feel while reconnecting with reality.
Emily’s mini collection SKIRT is available solely at The Happy Cabin in West End.
