Roadworthy style with tire belts from Artisan

An eco-friendly approach to fashion doesn’t have to mean buying clothing from the local hippie shop – instead it can refer to creating something from something unusual.

Artist Sue Glab has embraced this approach, and using the green process of upcycling, has created pieces of wearable art by recycling parts of old bicycle tires. As an avid cyclist, her collection of pre-used wheels faced her with the dilemma of how to dispose of her old tires in an eco-friendly way. Sue’s interest in sustainability sought her to find a solution to her regular visits to the tip. Cue artistic imagination and the tire belt was born.

Using the tires of mountain, road and hybrid bikes Sue creates textured belts for both men and women. Each piece is made by hand – from the husks of wheels that once were roadworthy. Sue’s idea was also created from her desire to create within, and support, the local community. With a line of dog collars and children’s belts also available, the whole family can be eco-accessorising this way in no time. Sue’s unique creations are available for purchase at (m)art & Gallery Artisan.
