Dress Up brings a human touch to divine feminine styles
The very concept of dressing up has so many implied connotations, but at the same time it’s a very personal thing. When it comes to women, society and the media in particular have a lot to say about what occasions constitute a fancy dress code. Dress Up is a Melbourne-based label offering simplicity and comfort that is intertwined with an irresistible femininity, with a mission to imbue a sense of occasion into ordinary life … because every day should be Dress Up day, right?
Dress Up is the brainchild of Stephanie Downey, a Melbourne-based creative who hatched the label in 2006 after completing a Bachelor of Arts Fashion at RMIT. Stephanie’s desire to create clothing that tells a story, coupled with her commitment to a slow and sustainable approach to fashion, have combined to create a label that will go on to stand the test of time. All of the details of the label are carefully considered to ensure the highest quality and aesthetics – natural fibres, local manufacturing and painstaking design and fitting processes ensure that each piece transcends seasonal trends to become a staple in its own right.
If you wanted further examples of how Stephanie truly caters to the female form in all of its ways, you need only take a peek at each season’s collection from Dress Up. The breadth of each edit is loaded with details that strike the perfect balance between total practicality and seductive femininity – think elegant linen tees, mid-length tailored shorts and easy fit jeans combined with sprinklings of gingham, checks and soft colour pops. Each collection also carries powerful and distinct themes that fit in perfectly with the label’s ethos of telling a story through fashion, making the garments all the more of a joy to wear.
