Christie Nicolaides unveils first bricks-and-mortar flagship in Brisbane City
One of Brisbane’s most coveted jewellery brands has opened its first physical store this week, revealing a stunning space that matches up the with the extravagance of the brand’s earrings, bracelets, neckpieces and crowns. Christie Nicolaides’ store is delivering a hands-on experience to fans of the jeweller’s wares and allowing them to get up close and personal with the artisan-crafted pieces for the first time.
It was nearly four years ago that Brisbane-based designer Christie Nicolaides switched from a career as a fashion styling to jewellery design, and in that short time her brand has exploded in popularity. After a well-received James Street pop-up helped cement her decision early on, Christie delved into the jewellery scene full time – designing artisanal handmade pieces that resonated aesthetically with discerning buyers of fashionable accoutrements. Although the brand has rapidly earned a wider customer base nationally and internationally through online and wholesale avenues, Christie has always yearned to open a flagship space reminiscent of a gallery of treasures, where fans could interact with the pieces before buying. The perfect opportunity presented itself when she came across a vacant ground floor space situated in a gorgeous heritage building on Edward Street, boasting a street level store and basement level that was ideal for Christie’s vision.
Inspired by opulent Venetian palazzos, Christie Nicolaides’ flagship store is designed to offer a feast for the senses, blending old-world glamour and contemporary chic. A curved pink-marble staircase connects the ground-floor retail space to the head office and private viewing area below. Italian marble floors surround a stunning marble counter, while pale pink, mint green and cream aged porphyry walls and a berry-coloured pressed-metal ceiling add eye-catching pops of colour. Handmade ebony wood cabinets are used to showcase Christie’s pieces, with soft pink linen upholstery and brass detailing continuing the luxurious aesthetic lean. All of Christie’s collections are available in store, featuring pieces wrought by skilled artisans and unique stones sourced from around the world. Christie releases three new collections each year, but the flagship will also sell store exclusives and limited-edition pieces frequently.
