Brisbane’s music scene is alive and well, and its enduring good health is in no small part thanks to the attentiveness and encouragement of its local community. A new member has joined the family in recent weeks, with the opening of Catalog Music Co. in late October. The focus here is on providing a quality selection for customers – regardless of whether you’re a first-time vinyl buyer or a hardcore collector – and sharing an authentic love and appreciation of music. The store not only buys, sells and trades new and select pre-loved records, but also aims to foster upcoming artists by hosting local DJs and musicians on select afternoons and evenings.

Look out for the sign on Wickham Street and trawl the wooden floorboards to find a new favourite among Catalog Music Co.’s rare, obscure and niche titles. The store stocks releases from some of the world’s most progressive record labels, from Inertia to Soul Jazz Records, as well as independent Aussie labels like Beats Of No Nation and Middle Name Dance Band. Custom marble 1200 turntables offer a superior in-store listening experience, while staff strive to create a diverse and inclusive space where everyone feels welcome. Co-founded by local DJs Martin Spencer and Isaac Ismail, Catalog Record Co. has plans to expand into radio and live-streaming, as well as establishing a record label that supports local artists.
