The readers of The Weekend Edition have voted and we are excited to announce what you thought Brisbane’s top ten icons were.

More than 150 different icons were nominated, with a good mix of the renowned to the obscure, plus many hilarious suggestions. The top ten icons nominated, with the top three winning by landslide results, were:

Icon 1: Story Bridge
Icon 2: South Bank
Icon 3: Brisbane Powerhouse
Icon 4: Mount Coot-tha
Icon 5: Kangaroo Point Cliffs
Icon 6: Brisbane City Hall
Icon 7: New Farm Park
Icon 8: CityCats
Icon 9: Brisbane River
Icon 10: Gallery of Modern Art

A few of The Weekend Edition team’s favourite nominations were the Spring Hill Baths, Toowong Cemetery, the assorted electrical substations, ‘the weird building in the city that looks like it should be in the Batman movie’, Brisbane Jazz Club, the old windmill on Wickham Terrace, Sandgate Pier, and The Go-Betweens. The funniest two nominations that deserve a mention were ‘having your lunch stolen by an ibis’ and ‘buses that never turn up’!

Thanks to McDonald’s, the first 100 readers to nominate their favourite Brisbane icons will be receiving a voucher to enjoy the new limited-edition Brissy Burger, created specifically to raise money for Brisbane’s new Ronald McDonald House in South Brisbane. Prizes are in the mail!
