Heat Island draws on memories, personal cultural histories and reflections of both the local Queensland summer lifestyle and the hometown of Bianca’s grandmother, the port of Chania in Crete. A fine art graduate from the Queensland College of Art, Bianca has trained across industrial design and gold and silversmithery to hone her craft. Using sterling silver, hand-coloured resin and wood, the contemporary jeweller hand-carves, files and shapes each piece in her studio in Bulimba.

A motif of bold colour and enhanced scale runs through both her latest range and debut collection Prickly Pear from mid-last year. Aloe vera flowers, 1980s haircombs, mango trees, monstera leaves and pineapple slices inform the shapes of earrings and necklaces, provoking a wide grin from viewers when the realisation sets in.
