Bare your beard in the battle against cancer
Dive chin-first into Beard Season and help raise awareness of the importance of regular skin checks.
‘Tis Beard Season and your mission is simple: grow the most epic beard imaginable. Want to plait those locks? Go for it. Prefer a wispy wise-man trail of hair? Be our guest. The only rule is that you grow it, and share it. Once you’ve crafted your face into a work of art, your task is to encourage your mates, family members and strangers on the street to have a skin check.
More young Australians are killed by melanoma than any other cancer, as the lads behind Beard Season know too well, having lost their pal Wes Bonny at the young age of 26. A few years back, Wes discovered a melanoma on his neck, which had spread up to his brain, and he tragically passed away just a few months later. His pals were inspired to launch the Beard Season initiative last year, which aims to encourage as many people as possible to have regular skin checks and increase their chances of early detection. Use your beard as a conversation starter, inform your new friend about the importance of skin checks and take a happy snap with the converted – doing the textbook Beard Season Point, of course. Then simply upload the photo to Instagram, Twitter or Facebook with the hashtag #BeardSeason. If you’re lacking adequate growth and have a cheeky $1 million to spare, you might be tempted to make Beard Season founder Scott Maggs’ – aka Jimmy Niggles – million-dollar beard your own. Head online to become an ambassador and keep up to date with all the beardiful happenings on Facebook.
