Have you ever wondered what oddities your favourite band might demand on their gig rider? Brooklyn-based photographer Henry Hargreaves takes you backstage.

Voyeurs, come hither. Press pause on your imaginations. Drag your cursor away from the Google search box. If you’ve been speculating what sordid accoutrements that heavy metal band might insist on, or what ridiculous requests that diva might demand, wonder no more. Still-life and fashion photographer Henry Hargreaves has teamed up with collaborator Caitlin Levin and typographer Lorenzo Fanton to track down some of the more outlandish riders of the world’s most famous bands and solo artists, and document them in the Band Riders photographic project. Embodying a Flemish still-life style, the spectacular result encourages viewers to draw their own conclusions on the intriguing requests.

From the herring in sour cream, tube of KY Jelly and M&M’s (no brown ones) demanded by Van Halen to the surprisingly sweet Gummi Bears for Marilyn Manson, your suspicions might be confirmed or your prejudices might be shaken. The New Zealand-born photographer worked in the food industry before he kicked off his photography career, which tickled his curiosity about what a person’s culinary penchants may say about them. And what would Henry himself demand if he was a rock star? Well, he’d simply ask for a Miller High Life beer, oatmeal and raisin cookies, and a plate of fresh fruit.
