Local label AMIRA launches at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival

Local, budding designers will go on show at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival’s Emerging Designer Group Show this Thursday, exposing the hidden talents of Brisbane’s young and fashion savvy.

Recently named The Old Scholar Emerging Designer for 2012, Safa Itote is one up-and-coming talent selected to send her wares down the runway. Having her father’s civil-engineering sketches and mother’s sewing patterns and materials around the house from an early age secured future creative desires, leading Safa to study fashion at MSIT. Three years later and Safa is launching her label AMIRA as well as her first collection Mise En Scene at the Emerging Designer Group Show.

Mise En Scene has been inspired by the classic elegance of the film noir era, using panelling and detailing across a black-and-white palette to reflect the role lighting plays in the retro film genre. Contrasting fabrics of silk, leather and organic cotton feature in the spring/summer collection, which harness clean, simple lines with a textural edge. With plans to develop an online store and take on stockists around the country, keep an eye out for AMIRA in Brisbane boutiques.
