Teneriffe welcomes Japanese bites and craft beer bar Zero Fox

Vernon Terrace has been blessed with a new casual eatery that stocks an impressive selection of brews and a tasty menu of sushi, curry and other Japanese eats.

Since the departure of Tippler’s Tap to its current South Bank premises, Léa Angeles and Shaun Fugill have wished for a new casual bar in Teneriffe that featured both craft beer and good food at a reasonable price. Not content to wait for that bar to eventually appear, the duo decided to put their hospitality chops to good use and open one of their own. When a spot became available on Vernon Terrace (under the Woolstores, formerly occupied by Wunderbar Bakery Bistro) that met their requirements, Léa and Shaun (both formerly of Brio) jumped at the opportunity. Together with a third partner Garry Heaven, the group quietly created the concept for Zero Fox – a new craft beer bar and Japanese food outlet in the heart of the Teneriffe dining precinct. Seeking to create a comfortable and welcoming spot, the trio overhauled the space and built the bar and accompanying furniture from scratch – resulting in a warm and cosy locale for members of the community to relax in. Interior space is limited, but Zero Fox boasts plenty of tables on the front deck facing Vernon Terrace

The two major focuses of Zero Fox is craft beer and Japanese eats. The kitchen is operated by a group of chefs that specialise in sushi and hot food, who helped refine the food offering into a concise and delicious selection with plenty of choice for carnivores and herbivores. Patrons can snack on small plates of okonomiyaki, pork dumplings, kimchi fries (think loaded fries but topped with kimchi and cream) and crispy or wet and spicy chicken wings. For a heartier meal, Zero Fox offers bowls of katsu chicken curry and vegetarian curry as well as more than ten sushi rolls (be sure to try the green chicken curry roll for a spicy change) and hoso rolls and nigiri. All food options are takeaway, with lunch specials also common for busy bees on their lunch breaks. As a dedicated craft beer bar Zero Fox features several taps pouring exclusively Australian craft beers in order to introduce locals to a wider range of tastes from across the country. The selection changes from keg to keg with ciders, light and dark beers popping up regularly. Boutique wines are available, as are spirits sourced from small distilleries.
