Wunder Bar, Brisbane Festival

Wunder Bar carves an after-dark hang spot at South Bank

Wandering down to South Bank on any given night at the moment, you’re surrounded by an atmosphere abuzz with excitement and dappled with colour and light. The golden rims of the majestic Spiegeltent are illuminated, while beats of diverse genres waft through the air from a number of pop-up venues.

Burrowed within QPAC’s Cascade Court is Wunder Bar, a free after-show hangout or general go-to for good tunes and a nightcap. With musical talent gracing the stage from 8:30 pm each Wednesday through Saturday during Brisbane Festival, the wonderment of Wunder Bar has highlighted Brisbane’s need for a late-night culture that doesn’t lead to scoffing down cheeseburgers at 3:00 am.

The Spiegeltent is also playing host to Late Night DJs from 11:00 pm from Thursdays through Sundays until the end of the month. These late-night haunts are reminiscent of Paris and Buenos Aires, where leaving the house at 11:00 pm for a drink or a meal is commonplace. For an evening feed post 8:00 pm, head along to The Villager and The Euro in the city, and Sardine Tin at South Bank.
