Try a tipple or two at White Lies Brewing’s new bar and cellar door
Attention residents of Brisbane’s west – there is a new craft beer destination in your midst. No, it’s not a HOPtical illusion – one of Brisbane’s best boutique craft beer breweries has taken the next step in its evolution by opening a spiffy new bar and cellar door operation at its Sumner brewery.
It’s Friday, you’ve had the week from hell and all you want to do is blow some froth off a cold one and relax. If you live out in Brisbane’s far western suburbs you’d be hard pressed to find a relaxing spot to do so that isn’t your own couch – until now, that is. Lee McAlister-Smiley of White Lies Brewing took his passion for making home brew from a hobby to a full-blown career four years ago – a change that quickly paid dividends in the form of awards and a formidable reputation among Brisbane’s discerning drinkers. Since moving to his current location a year ago, Lee has increased his wholesale operations as demand has grown. The next stage of Lee’s dream has recently opened to the public – a welcoming bar that showcases White Lies Brewing’s beers and a range of other boutique brews in a relaxed setting.
Lee has handcrafted the bar, tables and benches himself out of repurposed timber pallets, while also turning the walls into a space for local artists to showcase their work. The bar boasts eight taps showcasing a range of White Lies drops (with that total set to increase to 12 in the near future) as well as a few other boutique brews, with bottled beers, ciders and wines also available. Drops include the Babs (Barbara’s custom pale Aussie lager brewed by White Lies), an India pale ale, a barrel-aged Russian imperial stout, a German hefeweizen and more. Patrons can try tasting a tasting platter of beer before filling up a growler with their drop of choice. Expect Lee to offer experimental brews exclusively at the bar and cellar door as well as regular guest tap takeovers and partnerships with local food spots.
White Lies Brewing will open the bar and cellar door on Fridays, with Saturday trading to come. Feeling thirsty? We don’t blame you. Hop on over to the Stumble Guide to find out where to go to quench your thirst.
