What the truck – a new street-eat emporium set for King Street
Attention all food truck lovers – buckle up, we’ve got some big news for you. The minds behind Melbourne’s Welcome to Thornbury have just announced Brisbane’s very own permanent bar and food truck stop – Welcome to Bowen Hills. Yep, that’s right – next year there will be a dedicated street eat emporium smack bang in the middle of town at the Brisbane Showgrounds.
The past few years have seen Brisbane’s food truck scene grow by leaps and bounds, but pretty soon we’ll reach a new peak of mobile culinary goodness. King Street has just announced plans to open up a permanent truck stop called Welcome to Bowen Hills, taking cues from Melbourne’s popular street eat destination Welcome to Thornbury. The 100 Burgers Group, an enterprising team that boasts a tasty portfolio that includes Welcome to Thornbury, Mr Burger, Belles Hot Chicken and Super Taco, will spearhead the execution of Welcome to Bowen Hills, which is set to open in mid-February 2018 inside the rejuvenated Dairy Hall and Sugar Building.
Welcome to Brisbane will be designed by Derlot Architects, with award-winning director Alexander Lotersztain shaping the space to include a permanent indoor bar (serving up cocktail jugs and craft beers) as well as a separate gin cocktail joint called Swill for some boutique sips. The food truck portion will see a daily rotation of some of Brisbane’s best street eats, with applications for interested vendors now open.
