Everton Park welcomes Brisbane’s first dedicated vegan bakery Veganyumm
You read that headline correctly – Brisbane’s very first 100 percent vegan bakery has opened in Brisbane’s north. Veganyumm boasts a range of delicious treats made without most of the nasty, unhealthy ingredients that you’d normally find in your iced goodies.
It’s not every day that you see a medical professional change gears for a career in food, but for Shairie Bihm it was a no-brainer. Having honed her baking skills since the age of eight, Shairie always dreamed of dedicating herself to food full time, sharing her recipes with the wider public in a space of her own. The first sign of Shairie’s dream turning into reality was through her humble market stand, where she sold vegan cinnamon rolls (called Cinnayumms) at the Boundary Street Markets – often selling out in record time thanks to word-of-mouth recommendations. Soon, opportunity arose to partner with Charlie’s Raw Squeeze and fruit market to open Veganyumm – a dedicated vegan bakery, which finally gave Shairie the chance to flex her talents and offer a sizeable selection of dairy-free, egg-free and refined-sugar delicacies.
Don’t let the ‘vegan’ label dissuade you – these desserts are just as decadent as any sugar and dairy-loaded treats on the market, with a focus on classic flavours that will bring you back to your childhood. In addition to Shairie’s hugely popular cinnamon rolls, Veganyumm also stocks several cupcake varieties, cookies, custard tarts, peanut butter and choc chip bars, and cakes. For a personal touch, vegan birthday cakes can be ordered in either vanilla, Ferrero Rocher or choc fudge, and are iced in different colours. Patrons can swing by early for a heavenly breakfast of waffles served with vegan ice-cream, or grab a treat for later in the day. Coffee is available with coconut, soy or almond milk, plus those looking for a splash of colour can order either red velvet or turmeric lattes. Shairie also brews her own chai on site, available alongside a selection of T2 teas. Expect the menu to be ever expanding, with the likes of vegan doughnuts and pancakes (say it with me: yasss) on the cards for the near future.
