Uber Eats establishes a funding-support package for hospitality venues

With more than 22,000 restaurants on its delivery platform across Australia and New Zealand, Uber Eats is making a huge push to ensure venues remain open, deploying a funding-support package to assist independent restaurants during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Uber Eats has made $5 million in funding available for venues across Australia and New Zealand, which will allow restaurants to deploy promotions to retain and attract customers – and it will also help restaurants time their promotions to suit individual business needs. In an effort to address the obvious challenges being faced by the hospitality industry, Uber Eats will be offering restaurants the option to receive daily payments rather than once a week during the pandemic, to help with cashflow. Plus, restaurants on the platform will pay no service fees on pick-up orders until June 30.

The move by Uber Eats is designed to assist in generating new revenue streams for impacted businesses – and to make this more attainable, it is also waiving activation fees to help new restaurants wanting to quickly join. Plus, it has expanded its reach to now include caterers on the platform, many of which have been hit hard by a wave of cancelled events. Uber Eats is also pushing contactless delivery, with users encouraged to request that food deliveries be left on their doorsteps.
