Make a healthy turmeric smoothie with the help of Teck’s Enterprises

Turmeric is mostly made famous by its use in the colourful curries descending from India. But with the health benefits of turmeric being so vast and various, it seems logical that the smoothie revolution has caught on to this super spice.

The great thing about smoothies is that you can create an absolutely delicious drink with a number of healthy ingredients that you might not normally consume on their own. Here are a couple of great reasons to ‘hide’ a little turmeric in your morning smoothie. Turmeric is an anti-inflammatory, aids in weight loss by helping to increase the flow of bile and detoxifying the liver, contains cancer fighting properties, is anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal, and also promotes healthy skin. And if that’s not enough, the colour is like extreme sunshine. You can use bottled turmeric, but fresh is always best so hunt around to find turmeric at your local markets.

Teck’s Enterprises’ stall tables are currently piled high with turmeric at the Nundah Farmers Markets. Farmer Teck Wong specialises in seasonal vegetables on his 40-acre farm near Beaudesert. Teck’s market stall will also be abundant with shallots, beetroot, snow peas, radish, kale (another great smoothie addition), avocados, silverbeet, taro and unwaxed apples from Stanthorpe.

Turmeric is slightly bitter to taste (on its own) but you won’t even notice it in your smoothies along with all those other goodies. Try out these recipes this weekend: turmeric mango smoothie, tropical turmeric cleanser green smoothie, turmeric smoothie and sunshine smoothie with coconut, clementine and turmeric.
