There’s more than meets the eye at new Fortitude Valley bar Tomcat

A cool new cat has slinked onto the Fortitude Valley bar scene. As you wander up its unassuming stairs, don’t let its hip party atmosphere and cocktails off tap fool you – there’s more to it than meets the eye. Open the correct door and you’ll find yourself in a whole other secret venue – one that offers a completely different style of hospitality. All will be revealed when Tomcat opens its doors to the public this Friday September 30.

After months of waiting, the cat is finally out of the bag – Tomcat has perched itself in the midst of Fortitude Valley and will be opening its doors in just a few days. We can reveal that the secretive project, which is the brainchild of hospitality veterans Chris Denman and Stevie Waite (Kerbside, Fourth Wall and Manhattan Line), is located in an expansive space above street level on Wickham Street. Simply head up a short flight of stairs accessed via a dimly illuminated door next to Prohibition and voila – you’ve entered the newest party destination in town.

Shrouded in a cloak of mystery, the details of Tomcat were kept secret until mere hours before its launch party, though drips of information revealed that Tomcat would be two venues in one, each offering a different style of service and atmosphere. The Tomcat space boasts a rough, graffiti-layered industrial aesthetic with low-lit booths, leather lounges and pool tables, while hidden behind a secret door is the Boiler Room Bar – a classy cocktail lounge reminiscent of the incognito speakeasies of a bygone era. Tomcat offers up a range of drinks including craft beer, cider and two rotating cocktails off tap (the current pours are Mount Gay rum and peach punch, and Aperol ginger spritz) as well as a selection of stone-fired pizzas to share. The Boiler Room will be the place to get your hands on a specially crafted cocktail, premium spirits and daily charcuterie boards and cheese plates. Of special note is the venue’s exclusive partnership with Rémy Martin, which offers patrons access to their own personal bottle of Rémy Martin Louis XIII cognac in a custom-made copper closet kept safe in The Boiler Room.
