Time for tea at The Cobble Stone Tea House, New Farm

Since the invention of the mug, grandmothers, nanas and great ladies alike have been turning up their noses at this un-dainty option for enjoying a cup of tea. The petite handle on a china cup, so delicate that one is forced to raise a pinky from lack of handle space, brings the warm, comforting liquid to perfectly measured flavour when gracing a delicate teacup.

Keeping tea traditions alive, The Cobble Stone Tea House in New Farm serves 30 different varieties of black, green, white, red and flavoured loose-leaf tea in china teacups atop proper linen tablecloths. Run by mother-daughter duo Corrie and Amy Newchurch, this English-influenced cafe of a different nature has awoken this sleepy area.

The petit fours, savoury tarts, ribbon sandwiches, rocky road and artisan chocolates are all handmade on the day, meaning the freshest of high teas is delivered. With champagne on arrival and unlimited pots of tea, high tea bookings must be made a day early, with gluten- and lactose-free and vegan-friendly options available. Sweet tooths should try the Lemon Meringue Tart, with the Goats Cheese, Pumpkin, Roasted Capsicum and Sundried Tomato Tart melting onto savoury-pleased tongues.
