Anise, New Farm

The Street Photographer: Anise

Brunswick Street institution Anise has had a refit, with ex-1889 Enoteca lads Dan Finn and Thames Delaforce having taken ownership of the keys on Christmas Eve and speedily turning around a refreshed bistro. Executing most of the fit-out themselves, Dan and Thames uncovered some of the building’s history in the form of old Shell petrol station signage. Majority of the seating is bar-side, with a single bentwood chair-clad table by the front window. David Grant (also ex-Enoteca) has risen from his sous chef title under the old Anise owners, curating a menu that glides easily from small plates to mains to sides and desserts, with all offerings share friendly. The cuisine breaks out of Anise’s original Gallic constraints, now seeing a French-European bent across the likes of Foie Gras Terrine with caperberries, braised lamb neck, vignarola and pine nuts and the original Duck Fat Potatoes with rosemary salt.
