Sip in sophisticated surrounds at Brisbane City’s The Silver Fox Wine Bar

Sometimes the breakneck pace of the nine-to-five can have you feeling as if you’re going prematurely grey. If the hustle and bustle of the Brisbane’s CBD is threatening to turn you into a silver fox sooner than you’d like, we suggest capping off your weekly slog with a visit to the inner city’s newest haunt. The Silver Fox Wine Bar has quietly set up shop at the Botanic Gardens-end of Edward Street, offering a relaxed and comfortable space to unwind with a glass of wine in hand.

If the process of renovating and opening Doo-Bop Jazz Bar left James Stevens depleted of creative energy, he’s isn’t showing it. The lawyer-turned-hospitality giant has been secretly working on another venue while putting the pieces in place for his multi-level jazz bar, this time located just a few blocks away near the City Botanic Gardens. The Silver Fox Wine Bar quietly opened to the public last week, offering a new spot for movers, shakers and weary wanderers alike to sit down in luxurious surrounds and kick back with a leisurely libation. Occupying the space that once housed Nant Whisky Bar + Kitchen, The Silver Fox Wine Bar has stripped back the clutter and styled itself as a chic hideaway with a cosy vibe. We’re talking mood lighting and leather – a timeless decorative combo if there ever was one.

Although a wine bar by name, The Silver Fox also caters to the morning crowd. A breakfast menu (similar to the one at Doo-Bop’s brasserie counter) offers the likes ricotta, pear and honey crepes, toasted corn bread and coconut French toast, as well as coffee to help get your day started. Once the evening arrives, croissants and pain au chocolat are swapped for cheese and charcutuerie. The night nibbles menu features traditional Iberico ham, sobrassada de Mallorca, bresaola, jabali and more, while the cheese offering includes semi-hard, blue mould, cheddar, and soft cheeses that are hand selected. As for the wine, each drop is selected to be complementary to the food, with staff on hand to help guide you towards a perfect choice. Sip on French champagne, Californian reds and New Zealand whites, as well as a host of top drops from around Australia. If cocktails are more your thing, order a tasty concoction such as the spiced watermelon margarita, cinnamon rum old fashioned, smoked julep and the breakfast martini.
