Create your own dish at Fortitude Valley’s The Riff Bar & Bistro

Sometimes, no matter how long you stare at a menu, you can’t seem to find the dish that’s exactly what you want. The Riff Bar & Bistro feels your pain, allowing you to create your own dish with only the things you’re really, really craving.

Much like a classic guitar riff is made of a collection of great notes, one’s perfect meal is created from a collection of their favourite ingredients. This was the inspiration behind The Riff Bar & Bistro (hence the name, in case you were wondering), the Emporium’s newest eatery. While the guys in the kitchen have worked hard to create a delicious menu using seasonal local produce, they understand that sometimes you just want what you want, allowing you to ‘create your own riff’ for breakfast and dinner. If crispy waffles with strawberry compote, pistachio and wild berry sorbet or eggs benedict aren’t quite your style, put together your own breakfast with the likes of eggs, jamon, potato hash, corn salsa, smashed avo and more. At dinnertime you can look to 12-hour lamb shoulder or wild mushroom fettuccine, or you can share with a pal your choice of three meats and three sides. Got allergies? No worries. Just choose the things that suit you best.

For those that are super easy to please (or just can’t be bothered thinking), The Riff offers quick lunch options such as beef cheek and slaw sliders, salt-and-pepper calamari with chickpea chips, and grilled haloumi with fattoush salad. You can also gather around a bunch of small plates for lunch and dinner, because why have one dish when you can try eight? Choices include chorizo croquettes, buffalo-style spicy popcorn chicken, and zucchini flowers stuffed with ricotta, fetta, tomato and pine nuts. If, like The Riff’s hipster Humpty Dumpty mascot, you’re keen to have a beer or two, there’s local Newstead Brewing Co. and house brew The Riff Lager on tap, as well as wines, spirits and signature cocktails to keep you lubricated well into the evening.
