Shake, rattle and roll on in to The Valley’s new beer and cocktail bar The Rattler
If you’ve heard a ruckus emanating from a new watering hole on the corner of Ann and Warner Streets in The Valley, we have some info as to what the deal is. The Rattler is a new (and aptly named) saloon that imbues late-90s rock’n’roll-bar aesthetics with a killer selection of beer, cocktails and eats. The Rattler quietly opened its doors to the public last week, but now the crew is kicking out the jams and proclaiming its arrival on the scene loudly, for everyone to hear.
Fans of cold beer, spicy chicken wings and rock’n’roll will already be familiar with Luke Purnell’s rugged bar-meets-eatery brand Yard Bird Ale House. Luke’s concept of pairing his love of good food and drink with a non-discriminatory atmosphere has earned him a loyal following, directly contributing to his newest venture The Rattler, which opened softly in mid-November. Earlier in 2017, Luke was offered a prime space on Ann Street to bring his brand of hospitality to the entertainment district, and he jumped at the opportunity to strike while the iron was hot and do something a little bit different. Luke’s vision of a rowdy beer bar paired with a concise selection of cocktails and wines, and a late-90s dive aesthetic has laid the foundation of The Rattler’s identity. The end result is a comfortable haven that is welcoming to everyone – good times only.
The Rattler was hewn out of what was once two tenancy spaces, with a fit-out that saw walls knocked down, polished floors placed and a kitchen space and huge new bar installed, housing 16 beer taps and a cocktail station. The rough-and-tumble vibe is bolstered by a collection of antiques and signed records adorning the walls, in addition to a wall of fame showcasing images of rock’n’roll deities shot by photographer Vicki Craddock. The bar itself stocks a range of Australian and international brews, a curated selection of wines and collection of signature cocktails including the likes of Aperol spritzes, espresso martinis, grapefruit margaritas and negronis. The kitchen is firing up this week, dishing out bites including tacos, subs, quesadillas and more.
