Stuff your face with picture-perfect pastries from The Pie Hole
To ‘shut your pie hole’ is to be quiet, but when the pies are so good we’re more inclined to declare our love from the tops of the tallest buildings. The Pie Hole is a cheeky new entrant in Brisbane’s market vendor scene, delivering freshly baked pies of the sweet and savoury variety and frankly the only time you’ll hear us shut up about it is when we’re stuffing our own pie holes.
No offence intended towards the humble servo pie, but when it comes to flaky pastry and warm fillings we prefer something of higher quality. Isaac Hull (former Jocelyn’s Provisions executive chef) is a pie maker who has recently burst onto the scene with his market venture The Pie Hole, and has wasted no time in unveiling a comprehensive and seasonal selection of pies and pastries to satisfy most tastes. The chilly season menu has a stack of treats that can help keep you warm on a brisk weekend morning, including both sweet and savoury options.
Satiate your sugar craving with a piece of salted caramel pecan pie, spiced pumpkin pie, apple and cinnamon hand-pie, strawberry balsamic pie and baked raspberry jam custard tarts. If you prefer to the flavour of savoury eats, then clasp your hands (and teeth) around kimchi-braised chicken pie, pulled-pork and apple pastries, vegetable pies and red-wine braised brisket pie. Find The Pie Hole at Jan Powers Farmers Markets at the Brisbane Powerhouse on the first and third Saturdays of the month, at the Carseldine Farmers & Artisan Market every second and fourth Saturday and at the Milton Markets every Sunday.
