Packing a lunch box in a Brisbane summer is a hazardous task. Wilted lettuce and condensation droplets are the norm – and that’s on days when heat-induced lethargy doesn’t defeat us altogether. Our tastebuds owe much to South Brisbane’s The Lunch Box Kiosk, which is pledging to serve fresh, ready-to-eat, locally made meals from some of Brisbane’s best up-and-coming food businesses. An initiative of food business incubator Wandering Cooks, The Lunch Box Kiosk operates every Thursday from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, with plans to extend to additional weekdays in the near future.

A merry assemblage of food stalls will pop up in the Wandering Cooks car park on the corner of Fish Lane and Cordelia Street, with the latest meal offerings announced via Twitter and Facebook each week. You could be chomping on nourishing vegan salads and raw cacao amazeballs courtesy of Yummbox or Sri Lankan curries and noodles from local business Yaal Suvai. Grab a freshly pressed juice, organic coconut water or a sweet snack, and nab a seat inside the warehouse or outside under the shade of the umbrellas. All meals are under $10, but keep in mind The Lunch Box Kiosk is cash only.
