Boost your health with The Happy Sprout
Forget being happy little Vegemites – 2014 is the year of The Happy Sprout.
Take a stroll through Davies Park Markets in West End and you’ll stumble upon a stall packed with living superfoods. The humble sprout – yes, that kooky little guy sporting an incredible head of hair – is a nutrient-dense powerhouse, bursting with vitamins, minerals, proteins and essential enzymes that aid digestion and boost general health. The Happy Sprout is the creation of Sunshine Coast artist Lenni Semmelink, who grows, harvests and plays classical music to the sprout crops thriving in her Coolum home. The delicious results are available at Davies Park Markets on Saturdays, every second and fourth Saturday at the Jan Power’s Farmers Market – New Farm and Sundays at the Noosa Farmers Market. Lenni doesn’t sell only her impressive line-up of sprouts, but also a range of snacks including raw activated muesli, crackers and trail mix, and sprouting equipment to grow your own.
Sprouting seeds range from alfalfa, broccoli, chickpeas, fenugreek and lentils, to mung beans, radishes, red clover and adzuki beans, while 100% hemp bags and The Happy Sprout Elixir will give you all the tools you need to DIY. All snacks and sprouts are bundled up in biodegradable packaging, and Lenni encourages repeat customers to recycle or BYO containers for a discounted price. Keep updated on market appearances via The Happy Sprout Facebook page or peruse the full range of products online.
