Classic breakfasts at The Gunshop Cafe, West End

Renowned for an early morning line framing the entrance on weekends, The Gunshop Cafe at West End is one breakfast spot that could never grow old.

The beauty is in the details. Locally made Barambah yoghurts, rhubarb from Tamborine Mountain, Queensland avocados – each menu item boasts particular ingredients’ origins, with the comforting knowledge that the rest are sourced from local markets. Broken into three stages, The Gunshop Cafe menu reflects changing seasonal palates and produce, while also sticking to its much-loved roots. Even the simple, light indulgences offer grand gestures of flavour, like the Fruit & Fig Toast with House Lemon Curd or the avocado on sourdough with Barambah quark and flaked sea salt.

A relaxed ambience lush with greenery, the courtyard is the spot to sit on a sunny day. Amongst the fresh air and rays of sunshine, the chatter of breakfasting families and friends folds away, leaving you feeling particularly at rest in this peaceful oasis. New offerings like the Sauteed Greens with Poached Eggs, Persian Feta and Dukkah match up alongside Gunshop classics like the Vodka Cured Ocean Trout, Poached Eggs, Spinach and Hollandaise on Rye Toast. The Gunshop Cafe doesn’t take bookings for breakfast on weekends (hence the notorious line), but if you can muster a little patience, you’ll soon be sipping a fairtrade El Salvadorian coffee or organic tea in no time.
