The Grocer: Scenic Rim 4Real Milk

After Scenic Rim Robotic Dairy was offered a renewal contract from its milk processor that would no longer cover production costs, the family business decided to branch out on its own, setting up a milk processer on its Tamrookum farm.

After eight months of start-up work, the brand has begun bottling its own milk in glass bottles, channelling a feeling of nostalgia, when milk was delivered to your front door and kids fought over who got to scrape that first spoonful of cream off the top.

The fourth generation dairy farmers are now producing, processing, bottling and distributing Scenic Rim 4Real Milk, maintaining a product that is as farm fresh as possible, with nothing added and processing kept to a minimum. Scenic Rim Robotic Dairy also only stocks its products within a 1.5-hour drive radius of the farm, ensuring freshness of product is maintained and food miles are kept as low as possible.

Run by Greg Dennis, the dairy farm was first founded by grandparents Rita and Hal in 1936. These days the farm boasts a reputation of being the first in Queensland to install a LELY Robotic Dairy system, reducing stress on the animals and increasing productivity. Now the farm has taken steps to change the way the local dairy industry functions, accomplishing the farm-gate-to-glass process by hand instead of being locked into business with large international companies.
