Introducing The Fort Specialty Coffee at North Lakes
When you’re used to heading down laneways and off the beaten track for your top-notch hit of specialty coffee, it’s surprising to find a bustling espresso bar in the northern reaches of our city. Introducing The Fort Specialty Coffee at North Lakes – a must-visit for coffee nerds and those with a penchant for American paraphernalia.
Teaming up with Cup Specialty Coffee on the blend front, The Fort Specialty Coffee sees the Five Star Day house blend and a rotating single origin grace the machine. Queensland Milk from the Sunshine Coast Hinterland or Bonsoy complete your coffee, with the cafe’s bottles of cold-pressed coffee also causing a stir.
The Fort is run by Jason and Tim – with a bundle of their housemates also found behind the machine. The lads used to run a coffee cart at the old Coorparoo markets, followed by stints with Cleanskin Coffee Co. The America-centric haunt is decked out in an array of NFL paraphernalia and Tim’s comic book collection has found a new life on the ceiling (and tables, for reading). A Duff Beer planter, hanging bicycle, cross-stitches of Tim and Jason’s faces and sugar in Dr. Pepper bottles complete the design.
Vince from Workshop Co. espresso bar at Redcliffe has assisted with shaping the current small menu, with an expansion looking bright for the near future. Keeping things simple and high on quality, the current menu sees Seasoned Avocado Mash with Lemon on Pumpkin Sourdough, Granola with Organic Yoghurt, Fruit and Honey, and Banana Bread with Single Origin Espresso Butter at breakfast. At lunch, sandwiches take on an American feel with the Chicago-style Beef, which pairs corned beef, pickle relish, tomatoes, cabbage, mustard and mayonnaise and the 3 Cheese & Ken is a tempting assortment of gruyere, mozzarella, jarlsberg, ken ham, mustard and mayonnaise between slices.
