Tucked in behind Stalled Espresso is a quirky space just waiting for a creative mind to transform it into the event of their dreams. The Black has recently opened its doors, offering unique customisable events in a vintage barn-style setting.

You may have noticed it before on a visit to Albion’s Stalled Espresso – behind the cafe is a cavernous old timber mill, which is now home to new event space The Black. The warehouse has simple foundations, with a concrete floor and corrugated iron walls, offset by a timber-clad ceiling and feature wall, paying homage to the building’s past. An amalgamation of mismatched furniture is scattered throughout the space, which can be configured for anything from a 70-person long-table dinner to a swinging 160-guest cocktail party. A collection of vintage chandeliers, pendant lights and festoon lighting hangs from above, illuminating a plethora of whimsical curios and greenery around the space. Head to The Street Photographer for a closer look!

Dalton Hospitality has come on board to create the catering menu, which takes a laid-back street-food approach. Jerome Dalton and his team have crafted a variety of menu options, such as USA barbecue (think cheeseburger sliders, smoked-brisket sandwiches and loaded fries), live Spanish cooking stations (hellllooo paella), Mexican street food, Italian delights, and steamed and fried Chinese bites. The Black also features a fully licensed bar and offers a number of fun additions – including a six-tier prosecco tower balancing atop a classic Italian three-wheeler Apelino scooter. A pretty perfect pairing to an Italian feast, don’t you think? In addition to private events, The Black will also play host to a number of pop-up dinners and festivals in the coming months – keep an eye on our Event Guide for more details as they arise.
