The best new foodie spots and lively events in City of Logan

For too long the city of Logan has been passed off as just a mid-way stop between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, but now the area is booming and deserves to be treated like the thriving city it is. Several new hotspots have opened up recently meaning that now is the perfect time to check out the best new spots in Logan before everyone else catches on.

If you are keen to spend a day hitting up each destination, you’d better start early. Make sure you make time (and save stomach space) for a pitstop at some of the new brunch and lunch destinations first. Logan locals welcomed a new dedicated burger joint in May when Bake & Burger set up shop in Beenleigh. The humble space creates some of the most outrageous handfuls in the area as well as a selection of decadent treats. An extensive range of breakfast burgers is a specialty here, meaning that patrons can get their fix on their way to work. Extraction Artisan Coffee is a new hub for java junkies to get their fix, situated in a bustling industrial precinct in Slacks Creek. Top-of-the-line roasting equipment brings out the best in the specialty beans that have been imported from some of the world’s finest coffee regions, paired with a delectable menu of meals that aren’t your run-of-the-mill options. Think brioche French toast, spinach and cheese Bourek slices and Chevapchichi.

You might not have considered enjoying in a night out in Logan, but rest assured there are plenty of spots to spend an evening wining and dining on a weekend. One of the newest spots in the city is Malty Grain, a new beer house and restaurant that has been created by the team behind the acclaimed Beard and Brau Farmhouse Brewery. Malty Grain’s main focus is food and beer done well and by all accounts it has nailed the concept. Tuck into a great menu of tapas-style eats such as chicken wings, Spanish tortillas, croquettes and charcuterie with morsels sourced from local providores, then quaff some of the exceptional craft beer and cider on offer. The Beenleigh Artisan Distillery underwent a $5 million facelift earlier in the year and has emerged as a great spot to pay a visit. Beenleigh Rum has been popping up in Brisbane bars with greater frequency, becoming one of the more popular local spirits in the region. The distillery itself is becoming a great hub for discerning drinkers, with distillery tours every Wednesday through to Sunday as well as rum tastings taking place daily in the visitor centre. Every so often Beenleigh Artisan Distillery hosts events from food truck gatherings to outdoor movie screenings – be sure to check out the Trucks’N’Tunes event on Sunday June 26.

A great way to take in everything Logan City has to offer is driving down for some of the biggest events on the social calendar. The Beenleigh Early Bird & Breakfast Markets kick off for the very first time at the new Beenleigh Town Square on Sunday June 12, with a huge range of lifestyle and farmers stalls offering locally-sourced produce, artisan provisions, hot food and sweets. Jazz and wine fans simply must make their way to the Griffith University Logan Campus in Meadowbrook for the Jazz and Shiraz festival on Saturday June 25. Several of Queensland’s best musicians will be performing on the day, including Katie Noonan, Darren Percival, Emma Pask and Triple Shot. The food offering in 2016 has grown even larger than the previous year’s selection with vendors and food trucks from across southeast Queensland jostling for your patronage. Stroll down Vineyard Alley and taste a spectrum of pristine plonk from local vineyards before settling in on a picnic rug for a night to entertainment. We bet Logan seems pretty lively now, huh?
