Tacquito Taco pop-up Brisbane

Head along to the Tacquito Taco pop-up diner

Combining the hush-hush allure of a supperclub set in a suburban street with the community vibe of a roving food van, the Tacquito Taco pop-up restaurant is set to please jalapeño fiends this weekend.

The location of this stealth foodie event will be kept secret until the night before, with Facebook and Twitter followers given a street and inner-city suburb name to navigate to come Sunday lunchtime. Patrons will then look for a Mexican flag in a tree and listen out for some modern Mexican pop tunes wafting through the air to lead them towards soft taco heaven.

On the menu will be traditional, authentic tacos – with the soft tacos made by a Melbourne-based Mexican for the event. Taco variations include the Conchinita Pibil of slow-cooked free-range pork from Gooralie rubbed with achiote paste, served with salsa verde and guacamole, and the steak varietal with chipotle in adobo, lime-marinated onions, guacamole and pico de gallo salsa (tomato, onion, chilli salad). A vegetarian/vegan taco comes with with potatos, lime-marinated onions, chipotle sauce and avocado, with queso fresco cheese optional. Barbecued corn with coriander, smoked paprika and lime butter and will also make an appearance, alongside Chicharrónnes – deep-fried pork rinds with tomatillo sauce. Jugs of fresh lemonade and Mexican soft drink will quench thirst along with the team’s own beer, dubbed Revolucion! – the name fitting the organisers’ philosophy of creating a new way to bring people together over food.

Run by Pop Productions – small group of food lovers with a passion for hosting fun, accessible foodie events – this weekend’s taqueria venture will hopefully be the first of many pop-up restaurants, with future events expected to feature different cuisines, but always with an eye on authenticity and using quality produce. RSVP here so the team knows numbers and makes up lots of taco deliciousness.
