Ice Blocks

Discover artisan iced treats this summer

When you were a youngster, summer meant several things: school holidays, cooling off under the sprinkler and icy poles. As we grow up into adults, however, school holidays are no longer an option and it’s suddenly not so cute (or eco friendly) to frolic under the sprinkler in your underwear. When trying to capture the essence of the carefree summer days of childhood, try savouring a frosty iced treat instead.

For a sugar rush that isn’t loaded with food colourings and artificial ingredients, there’s the aptly named Ice Blocks. Crafted in northern NSW, Ice Blocks are handmade using natural and organic ingredients sourced from local farmers. While they taste like a sometimes treat, Ice Blocks can be savoured more often than not during summer, as they are simply the product of pulped fruit and other unprocessed natural ingredients, which create a naturally sweet flavour and offer a slice of nutritional value. You can find Ice Blocks at a number of places in Brisbane, including Planet Matterz, Bread & Butter and Spoon Deli Cafe.

Pat & Sticks Homemade Ice Cream Sandwiches are equally as delicious, but also a little more indulgent. The ice-cream sandwiches are handmade in Sydney using vanilla bean, local milk and chunks of Belgian chocolate. Once the cookies have been pulled from the oven and placed onto cooling racks, ice-cream is then churned the old-fashioned way before being slathered between two cookies. Visit the Pat & Sticks website for stockists.
