New Strauss cafe in Brisbane City laneway
City workers searching for a cup of specialty coffee need look no further than Strauss, a new coffee joint tucked down a pedestrian laneway off Elizabeth Street.
When the lads behind cult coffee names like Cup Roastery and Merriweather put their collective clever together, you can be sure the result is going to be worth ambling off the beaten track for. Oliver Strauss, Simon Pyle and Josh Russell have collaborated to launch Strauss, a charming coffee house tucked down a pedestrian laneway in the heart of Brisbane City. The cafe is currently open for all-day noshing Monday to Friday, but the gents plan to extend trading hours for night-time tipples in the coming weeks. The doors will stay open late Thursday to Saturday evenings, with a small grazing menu and a carefully chosen catalogue of craft beers and wines.
It’s no surprise these guys take their coffee seriously. The offerings sourced from Cup Coffee Roasters will change regularly, but time it right and you could sample the likes of a filter blend from Los Planes, El Salvador or a single origin from La Esperanza, Colombia. The seasonal food menu boasts no-nonsense, all-day fare, with fresh produce sourced from local farms via Food Connect Brisbane. Partner your morning coffee with avocado on sourdough, Bircher muesli and fruit, or fruit and nut toast dotted with Pepe Saya butter, or nourish the belly with heartier repasts like cold smoked trout and pinenut tarator with sourdough. Keep an eye on the Strauss Facebook page for updates on the bar’s progress.
