Sip on a sweet smoothie this spring
The weather is warming up and there’s nothing more satisfying then a cool breakfast beverage to replace your warm porridge of a morning. Without forgoing your beloved oats, add a handful to this health-packed smoothie at breakfast or as quick afternoon snack. Spirulina is full of antioxidants, while the vegan pea protein will give you an energy boost. We’ve also used coconut water and almond milk as vegan substitutes to milk.
INGREDIENTS
1 banana
1 mango
1 date
1/4 cup oats
1 teaspoon spirulina
1 teaspoon pea protein
1/2 cup coconut water
1 cup almond milk
TO MAKE
Add chopped banana and mango, oats, date, spirulina, protein and coconut water to a blender – or a sturdy jug if you’re using a stab blender – and blend until well combined. Add almond milk and blend until smooth.
If you like your smoothies super chilled, use frozen mango cheeks or add a handful of frozen berries for an icy touch. A sprinkling of desiccated coconut is also a nice touch if you like a bit of texture to your smoothie.
