As the 2010s progress and the fight for marriage equality gets even more earnest, social enterprises are getting creative in the way they spread their messages. The Sparkke Change Brewing Company is one such organisation that has been formed by a group of social activists who are employing their skills in brewing, winemaking, marketing and communications to create a range of beverages themed around the causes of gender equality, sexual consent, the plight of asylum seekers and the change of date for Australia Day. Sparkke is set to expand its range of socially conscious drinks with a canned sparkling wine that has been emblazoned with the message ‘Say I Do’ in support of marriage equality.

Sparkke Change Beverage Company’s winemaker Sarah Lyons has worked under the mentorship of Australia’s first Female Winemaker of the Year Rose Kentish on the drop, which is a fruity concoction that boasts minerality and fresh acidity. The wine boasts a blend of back-vintage wines made from grapes sourced from growers in the McLaren Vale and Adelaide Hills. Ten percent of all direct sales of the 250mL slimline can will be donated to The Equality Campaign – an organisation that lobbies for equal marriage rights for Australians. Sparkke has embarked on a crowd-funding campaign to get the cans into mass production, with donations earning pre-orders of the wine in four, 12 and 24-packs.
