Smith’s confirms beloved Aussie chippies Tasty Toobs will return to shelves

It started as a simple online rumour, whispers of a potential return. Now, there has been official confirmation that the word on the street is true – Burger Rings’ arch nemesis, Tasty Toobs, are set to make a comeback and our chipolatas are primed to be stacked with spicy hoops.

Not too long ago, online news site news.com.au called on its readers to vote for which forgotten Aussie snack should come back. This loaded question revealed that a particular tomato-flavoured bite was still fresh on everyone’s mind – the beloved Tasty Toobs. These moreish morsels have had a tragic history – they were first killed off by the snack merchants at Smith’s in 2001 (back when they were called Toobs), only to come back in 2007 as Tasty Toobs. Again in 2015, they were unceremoniously stripped from the shelves and we have been craving them ever since.

Now, a video has been sent from PepsiCO ANZ to news.com.au confirming what we were all hoping would be true – Tasty Toobs are coming back, baby! When the much-anticipated revival will happen is still under wraps but until then, we will be waiting with bated breath. We might buy a few bags of Burger Rings in the meantime to tide us over.

UPDATE Friday July 23: We’ve just heard word that our beloved Tasty Toobs will be returning from next Tuesday July 27 at 7-Elevens across the country. From Monday August 2, you’ll be able to find them at your local grocery store.
