The popular James Street hideaway now boasts another excuse to linger, with the delicious and aromatic goods from Sinmei Tea Room newly available.

In mid-2015, Sinmei Tea Room joined forces with Scrumptious Reads on James Street to create a unique cafe experience. With two popular tea rooms in Shanghai and Hong Kong, Sinmei Cheung decided to return to Brisbane – where she used to live – to partner with good friend and Scrumptious Reads owner Julie Tjiandra to open Australia’s only Sinmei Tea Room in Fortitude Valley. Scrumptious Reads has added tables and stools to the space to cater for sit down patrons, while a small kitchen at the back of the store is dedicated to the creation of Sinmei’s signature creations.

Patrons can enjoy a range of goods to sample in house or takeaway, including savoury and sweet options and a range of teas. The all day brunch menu includes a neat slection of dishes such as Hakka Thunder tea rice, vegetarian bibimbap and ribbon sandwiches, while the dessert range features items such as Earl Grey angel cake, matcha lamingtons, scones with jam and cream and matcha lava cakes. Sinmei Tea Room also serves a range of hot and cold drinks including artisan teas and herbal infusions. Green hot chocolates and soya matcha lattes are perfect for a warm up, or matcha mojitos and iced hojicha lattes are perfect for a refreshing drink. Those after an authentic Asian tea experience can witness a tea ceremony and enjoy the tastes of black tea from China. Sinmei Tea Room imports a selection of authentic ingredients from China and also incorporates fresh local goods in recipes to offer a unique product.
