Follow your nose to Short Order’s sweet and savoury Newstead sanctuary
Patrons standing on the corner of Skyring Terrace and Cunningham Street have reported a salivation-inducing scent springing from the newly opened Short Order at Haven Newstead, a smart new grab-and-go concept from the team behind Jocelyn’s Provisions. The overwhelming smell in question is emanating from Short Order’s piping-hot rotisserie, which is luring in patrons by the truckload and wowing them with a selection of savoury eats, take-home meals and smooth coffee.
The Haven Newstead development has become a, well, haven for all sorts of delicious morsels, but the precinct’s latest tenant is upping the stakes when it comes to convenience. Short Order by Jocelyn’s Provisions opened on Thursday May 17 as a handy outlet halfway between the brand’s James Street and Albion locations, seeing the renowned dessert destination extend its focus to savoury eats. Providing a hit of daily goodness is the essence of Short Order’s offering, cooking wholesome high-quality meals for those short on time. The casual space boasts an early-morning coffee window for patrons to get their caffeine hit first thing, while the interior features shelves stocked with Jocelyn’s goodies, a salad bar, sweet cabinet, take-home meal fridge and rotisserie.
Short Order’s offering starts in the morning, when regulars are treated to a series of scrumptious bites. It’s only been two days and customers can’t get enough of Short Order’s egg florentine sliders, breakfast burgers with bacon, cheese, onion marmalade, egg and kimchi, croque monsieurs, and layered muesli cups with passionfruit curd. Throughout the day, the kitchen lovingly cooks free-range chickens, lamb legs and porchetta on its shiny rotisserie (again, the aroma spreads far and wide), while also roasting a range of vegetables for a hearty lunch or dinner combo. Patrons can order cuts in a roll or paired with assorted dressings, dips and sauces including romesco, chimichurri and orange and mint, or flavoured butters including cafe d’Paris, garlic and fine herb, or caramelised onion. Savoury pies and sausage rolls, tarts, fresh breads and four salads are available daily, with rotating selections encompassing a host of seasonal produce. Finally, time-poor individuals or those looking to spruce up their home dinners can grab a freshly cooked Cryovac-sealed meal including a seasonal array of soups, casseroles, curries, Paris mash and filling pasta dishes. Oh, and fans of Jocelyn’s Provisions treats can also nab a cupcake or mini cake if they act quickly – they’re not likely to last until close.
