Start your day on a positive note at Woolloongabba’s Shawty’s Espresso
Getting out on the wrong side of the bed is an issue we all encounter from time to time. While many of us resign ourselves to a day of being cranky, the solution to our morning negativity could be as simple as a coffee from Shawty’s Espresso in Woolloongabba. This bright cafe exudes good vibes while offering healthy eats, friendly staff and top-shelf coffee and tea.
Owning and operating a cafe that centred around positive vibes and great nosh has long been a dream of Brodie Shaw’s. After toying with the idea for nearly a decade as he worked overseas and at home in Brisbane, the opportunity finally presented itself when Brodie and business partner Ben Evans stumbled upon (and subsequently secured) a spot on Elliot Street in Woolloongabba for Shawty’s Espresso. At first glance, the yellow building would have been best described as a ‘fixer-upper’ – to put it politely – but fix it up they did. The interior has been overhauled with new cafe fixtures and furnishings, and the exterior deck was expanded for a perfect sunny perch. Shawty’s Espresso’s original windows offer plenty of natural light, highlighting the interior’s modern aesthetic that uses plenty of brass and timber touches to create a bright beach-shack vibe. The building’s yellow exterior has been overlaid with some unique Aztec and jungle-inspired mural work, turning what was once a drab, out-of-sorts abode into an eye-catching beacon of warm hospitality.
Drawing upon Brodie’s past as a personal trainer, Shawty’s Espresso offers a neat selection of breakfast options that are healthy and nourishing. Meals such as avocado and fetta on toast, acai bowls, breakfast bagels and granola are on offer to help start your day on a good note, as are assorted treats from I Heart Brownies and homemade slices. Shawty’s Espresso pours coffee sourced from Coffee Supreme, and matches it with an exquisite collection of tea from The Steepery, which currently can’t be found in any other cafe in Brisbane. Black, green, oolong and tisane loose-leaf teas are available for those looking for some sublime sipping material in addition to a selection of smoothies, cold-pressed juices and organic soft drinks.
