Pavement Whispers: specialty coffee roaster Seven Miles to open its Queensland flagship at Craft’d Grounds
As the opening date for Craft’d Grounds inches ever closer, the crew behind the anticipated hub is drip-feeding us announcements of the vendors that will be calling the precinct home. We woke up this morning to the exciting news that Sydney-based artisan coffee roaster Seven Miles will be opening a new micro-roastery and cafe in the heart of Craft’d Grounds, giving sippers an up-close look at the inner workings of a nationally renowned coffee operation.
Anyone with their finger on the pulse of Australia’s artisan coffee scene will have probably heard the name Seven Miles. The Sydney roasting crew supplies its beans to a portfolio of cafes numbering in the hundreds – its character-loaded blends grace the cups of numerous venues in Brisbane and along the coast. In October Seven Miles will expand its local footprint considerably, opening a gleaming new flagship roastery inside Albion’s long-awaited food and lifestyle development Craft’d Grounds. The addition will sit within the hub’s zero-threshold floor plan beside other planned Craft’d Grounds tenants, including a restaurant, patisserie, fromagerie, fitness facility and previously announced craft-beer brewery Brewtide. Seven Miles itself will boast an open-plan layout featuring roasting apparatus, a retail area, coffee bar and facilities for barista training, masterclasses, cupping sessions and barista-art competitions.
Overseeing Seven Miles Brisbane will be Ben Graham, former owner of beloved Brisbane-based micro roaster Parallel Roasters. Caffeine fiends will be able to pop into Seven Miles to get a taste of its blends, which are crafted through a considered process described as a mixture of art and science. The roaster’s smooth and complex Brisbane-made blend, The Cat’s Pyjamas, will be available alongside other widely lauded blends such as Wilde and Cultivar, plus a host of single-origin roasts. Guests can also expect a range of brew methods and a small range of snacks (made by one of the roaster’s nosh-oriented neighbours) to go with their selected sip.
Stay tuned for a closer look at Seven Miles when Craft’d Grounds opens in October.
