It’s been a little while since River Quay had a new addition. And it’s not like we’re complaining – we never get tired of the riverside locale – but they say a little change is as good as a holiday. In this case, the holiday is in a laid-back coastal town, where the sun shines, the cool breeze rolls in off the water and seafood is king.

If you’re wondering which of the five River Quay restaurants you have to say goodbye to, the answer is – kind of – none of them. Cove Bar & Dining has transitioned to become River Quay Fish, tweaking the space slightly and adjusting the menu to focus on contemporary and creative seafood dishes. Still at the helm is original owner Adam Barton, who recognised the lack of dedicated seafood offering at South Bank – and hence River Quay Fish was born.

So no surprises here – seafood is the hero at River Quay Fish. But this is not just your regular paper-wrapped fish and chips. The menu features Singapore-style blue swimmer crab, twice-cooked octopus, whiting tacos and butter-poached ocean trout. Fancy fish and chips are also on the menu, as well as options for those that don’t live for the sea, such as pork-cheek croquettes, salads, charcuterie and steak from the chargrill. If you’re keen to lap up some sunshine on the rolling River Quay Green by the river, takeaway your fish and chips, salt-and-pepper soft-shell crab baguette or fish burger.
