Taste the bouquet of Queensland’s best with a Rhine Daiquiri at Gerard’s Bar

We like Queensland produce and we cannot lie! We can talk about Queensland produce until the cows come home, but in all seriousness it’s mind-boggling how much incredible stuff can be found in our home state. Locally sourced produce is evident in far more than just the food on our plate – it also pops up in the cocktails we drink! Last year we awarded several of Brisbane’s best food and drink spots in the Taste of Queensland Awards – celebrating the efforts eateries put into incorporating local produce wherever possible. Gerard’s Bar blew us away with an incredible cocktail, so we decided to check in again and see what else the bartenders are concocting this season.

Much like its award-winning sibling Gerard’s Bistro, Gerard’s Bar has been at the forefront of taste creation since its inception. Not a spot to shy away from experimentation, the skilled hands at the bar frequently whip up concoctions with incredible depth of flavour and plenty of Queensland ingredients. The Rhine Daiquiri is one such cocktail that is setting tastebuds alight. A crowd favourite, this wine-based cocktail blends some of the best ingredients the state has to offer, boasting a light, fresh and zingy profile that is well balanced between sweet and sour.

No doubt you are curious as to what actually goes into this heady elixir, and the team at Gerard’s Bar are more than happy to enlighten us all. Strawberry-infused Riesling is fortified with vodka and shaken with house-made lavender and vanilla bean syrup and a splash of lime juice before being strained into a chilled glass. Queensland is amply represented, with strawberries sourced from Strawberry Fields in Stanthorpe, lavender from Pottique Lavender Farm in Kingaroy, vanilla beans brought to Brisbane from Daintree Vanilla & Spice from the Daintree Rainforest and limes bought fresh from Suncoast Limes, which operates just outside of Gympie. Sounds divine to us! Stop in at Gerard’s Bar just off James Street next time you get the craving for a sublime cocktail or two.
