Red Baron Coffee opens shipping container cafe in Milton
With shipping containers tending to sit stagnant on docks, widely available yet mostly unused, it’s a wonder we haven’t been converting them into playful spaces before now. Making this idea a reality in Brisbane is Red Baron Coffee, opening a cafe with a shipping container as the frame.
Having run Red Baron Coffee Cart in Bardon for the past three years and growing a supportive community around the brand, Matthew Keegan has now opened the second space in Milton. Red Baron Coffee sees a palette of vivid red and wooden tones meld within the space, with much of the fit-out recycled. Exposed lightbulbs hang above the coffee bar and cosy seating corner inside, while a deck area at the front provides the perfect opportunity to soak up some morning rays.
Combining all his favourite local producers under one roof, Matthew has sourced baked treats from Gerbinos’s Pasticceria at Ashgrove and cakes from Leavain. The danishes and almond croissants are fluffy and lush, while the Spelt and Walnut Brownie and Raspberry Coconut Cake tempt you into staying a little longer. There are The Collective Dairy yoghurts for breakfast time and a range of sandwiches and salads catering to nearby lunching office folk.
The coffee is Veneziano, with Red Baron keeping a house blend and rotating single origin on hand – coffee nerds will appreciate that the current offering is from Kenya, with the next batch from Brazil. Phoenix beverages from New Zealand and Charlie’s juices and quenchers continue the healthy, organic bent, there’s a range of gluten-free options and soy and decaf comes at no extra cost. Red Baron Coffee will also be doing $2 coffees on Thursdays for the month of March.
