Paleo cafe Purely Decadent opens in Woolloongabba

You may use your GPS to map out your journey and Instagram photos of your meal when you get there, but new paleo offering Purely Decadent Cafe is on a mission to haul its visitors back to the days of the caveman.

Tucked inside furniture and homewares store Room for Living, the former coffee stop has evolved into a cafe offering a simple menu focused on grass-fed meat, wild-caught seafood, free-range chicken and eggs, alongside nuts, fresh fruit and vegetables.

Taking culinary cues from our ancestors, owner-chef Gary Keenan whips up gluten-free, dairy-free and preservative-free dishes from a tiny kitchen out the back, adding his own unique twist to the norm. Zucchini or bacon-baked eggs accompany your morning coffee, while ingredients like almond milk, honey, bananas and strawberries are whipped into healthy shakes. The cafe also continues to offer the farmer-friendly Fairtrade Brew and Decaf Blend from Noosa’s Little Cove Coffee Company.

Revert to your palaeolithic roots with a carnivorous caveman feast of a lamb cutlet, chicken tenderloin and bacon rashers with poached eggs and vine-ripened tomatoes, rocket and nuts, or the lighter grilled mushrooms with poached eggs and almonds. Non-paleo diners are also catered for, with several dishes incorporating grain toast for those in need of a carb hit. As a continuation of the Room for Living showroom, every table and chair at Purely Decadent Cafe comes with a price tag attached. The surrounding walls will also see a frequent change of adornments, with local artists planning to mix up the mural art on a regular basis.
