Proud Mary brings cocktails and Louisianan fare to New Farm’s riverside
Let’s paint a picture – you’re perched in a shady spot next to the leisurely flowing waters of the Mississippi River, cocktail in hand and a platter of fresh seafood placed before you. New Orleans’ French Quarter is at your back, and the atmosphere is on point. This is the vibe that New Farm’s lively newcomer Proud Mary looks to create at Brisbane Powerhouse – complete with the vivid sounds and smells of America’s French-influenced south. If soul food and bloody Marys are your dream pairing, come on down to the river and see what’s going on.
The first weekend of November brought a few changes to Brisbane Powerhouse’s dining offering, as WATT Bar & Restaurant transformed into Louisianan-inspired all-day hotspot Proud Mary. The venue has introduced a vibrant array of New Orleans-style eats and drinks to the riverside, sprinkled with French culinary influences and spicy flair from America’s southern states. Operated by an all-female team, Proud Mary is looking to invigorate tastebuds from morning brunch to pre-show snacks. Drinks and eats are placed on equal footing, with a balanced collection of cocktails and plated fare awash with fresh flavours and local produce.
Proud Mary’s brunch menu features a range of alluring day starters, including hash brown poached eggs benedict, guacamole tartine with black beans, crispy cumin polenta, and a goats cheese tartine burger with grilled chevre, bacon and honey. A boozy brunch option is also available for those seeking the true Bourbon Street experience, with a Saturday set-menu service pairing select dishes with bottomless bubbles or bloody Marys. The venue’s main menu is broken up into distinct sections that foregrounds a different eating style – raw and natural, comfort food, rustic plates, shareable eats and decadent finishers. Seafood lovers can gorge on prawns by the bucket, griddled crab cakes with succotash, southern crispy squid and natural oysters, while New Orleans staples like oyster po’ boys, French dip pork belly sandwiches, buckets of fried chicken, and beignets with icing sugar will prove to be amply satisfying for all appetites. Proud Mary’s cocktail selection spotlights the classic bloody Mary, riffing on the iconic drink with a selection of five tasty interpretations. The cocktail selection is further bolstered by seven signature concoctions and five all-time classics alongside share jugs, tap and bottled beers, wines and mocktails.
